Reopening School Guidelines

July 14, 2020

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

As we approach the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year, I would like to thank each of you for your support and patience throughout this period of uncertainty.  Planning is extremely difficult, and changes are likely as new developments occur over the next few weeks.  To plan for the new school year, district leadership considered the guidance from the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Department of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control, Georgia High School Association, Governor Kemp’s executive orders, Taylor County Health Department, local health officials, local board of education, data from our recent survey and feedback from zoom sessions.

The Taylor County School District has two options available for delivering instruction to your children for the 2020-2021 school year.  Due to COVID-19, we are offering students either in-person instruction or online distance learning.  Regardless of your selection, school will begin as originally planned on August 3, 2020.  If for some reason we are not able to start on August 3, 2020, we will communicate that to you as soon as possible.  A detailed explanation of the 2020-2021 school year options follows this letter.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Albritton

Superintendent

Taylor County School District’s Options for 2020-2021 School Year

Please note that you are committed to the option you choose for the entire semester.

Option #1 (In-person Instruction): Students return to campus with health and safety practices and strategies. These are detailed in an attachment to this letter.  During the school year, it may become necessary to close school (Short-term or Extended).  During those times, our staff will provide on-going instruction through an online format.

* If you want your child to receive instruction at school (option #1), there is no action you need to take.

Option #2 (Online Distance Learning): Students enroll in an online program called Odysseyware.  The online courses are aligned to state standards.  Over 100 courses are offered in math, science, language arts, social studies, career and technical education, foreign languages and electives.  A list of guidelines is provided as an attachment to this letter.

*To enroll your child in the online program (option #2), please visit our school websites and complete registration between July 13, 2020 - July 24, 2020.
