Star Student 2024

We are excited to announce that Taylor County High School senior Shervyn Praveen has been named the TCHS 2024 STAR Student.

Shervyn is the son of Praveen Prasad and Twinkle Mark.  Shervyn plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology and major in mechanical engineering.  Shervyn is an outstanding student.  He is actively involved in Beta Club and Skills USA.  He was selected as Mr. TCHS and Most Intellectual for the Senior Superlative.  He is the #1 Singles Player for the Boys varsity tennis team.

Shervyn selected Mrs. Tammy Berryhill, Science teacher at Taylor County High School, as his STAR Teacher.   Mrs. Berryhill graduated with a nursing degree from Columbus State University and has worked as a RN for 27 years.  She earned her Master’s degree in education from Troy University and earned her specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Piedmont University.  Mrs. Berryhill has taught at Columbus State, Southern Crescent Technical College, Taylor County Primary school, Taylor County High School, and South Georgia Technical College.  She is currently teaching Human Anatomy and Dual Enrollment Certified Nurse Assistant classes for South Georgia Technical College at TCHS. Mrs. Berryhill is married to Jon Berryhill.  Their three daughters, Morgan, Cate and Clair all graduated from Taylor County High School.  As I am sure most of you know, a scholarship has been established in memory of Morgan Berryhill.  Mrs. Berryhill has been with the Taylor County School System for 15 years.  She is a wonderful teacher, and we are fortunate to have her.

The PAGE Star Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) Program is sponsored and administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators(PAGE).  Since its inception in 1958 the STAR program has honored nearly 29,500 students and the teachers selected as the most influential to their academic achievement.  High school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent of their class based on grade point average to qualify for STAR nomination.

The Kiwanis Club of Taylor County has sponsored the Star Student / Star Teacher program for the past 65 years.  Our Kiwanis club is a great organization, and we are thankful that it is an active organization so closely involved  with and supportive of our school system.

We are very proud of Shervyn and Mrs. Berryhill, and the academic excellence they exemplify at Taylor County High School.
