Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians, We are very concerned about the percentage of positive tests in the last 14 days for our county. According to data provided by the Georgia Department of Public Health, our community has a high level of community spread. I plan to report a summary of the cases and quarantines in our schools for this week later this afternoon. While the number of positive cases that have been reported may not represent a large percentage of our total staff and student counts, the number of positive cases is troubling. To ease the concern of parents, students, and staff, we are going to make the following changes to our health and safety strategies. 1. Beginning Monday, face masks will be required on our school buses. This is a strategy used in many districts across the state. 2. Beginning Monday, the modified quarantine method for students exposed in the school setting will be changed. We will notify parents that their child may have been exposed, encourage them to monitor their child’s symptoms, allow them to remain in school during their quarantine period if they remain asymptomatic, and require that they wear a mask during the quarantine period. Any close contact that is opposed to wearing a mask at school during their quarantine period will be allowed to quarantine at home. We appreciate your support and patience as we try to address the recent challenges related to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our school system as well as in our community. If you have any questions or concerns related to our handling of COVID-19 in our schools, please contact me. Respectfully, Jennifer Albritton Superintendent

July 30, 2021 Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians, As we approach the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year, I would like to thank each of you for your support and patience throughout the last school year. We are planning to return to a more traditional school environment. However, we will be prepared to respond to any new developments that occur. We will continue to consider the guidance from the Georgia Department of Education, Georgia Department of Public Health, Centers for Disease Control, Georgia High School Association, Governor’s Office, Taylor County Health Department and local health officials in the event of any health concerns that arise related to COVID-19. The Taylor County School District plans to only utilize in-person instruction for your children during the 2021-2022 school year. We will continue to follow some of the health and safety procedures and strategies that were in place last year, and we have plans to make improvements to HVAC systems and water fountains to provide a healthier environment. Additionally, we are enhancing our intervention programs to address academic needs that have been exacerbated as a result of COVID-19.
