Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians, As we continue to see an increase in positive cases in our schools and our county remains at a high level of community spread, we are updating health and safety strategies. After seeking input and feedback from stakeholders in our recent zoom meeting, we are going to make the following changes to COVID-19 Reopening Guidelines 2021-2022. 1. We will offer online distance learning as an option for delivering instruction for students in grades K-12. Students enrolled in the Distance Learning Option will be utilizing the online program called Odysseyware in grades 3-12. In grades K-2, distance learning students will be utilizing several online programs. The enrollment form should be available next week on our school websites. Those enrolled by September 3rd, should be able to begin work in the program by September 13th if not sooner. The enrollment form will provide more detailed information about the program and specific guidelines. By enrolling in the Distance Learning Option, you will be making a commitment to distance learning for the rest of the school year. These students will be eligible for any honors or recognitions, but they will not be eligible to participate in extracurricular activities. 2. We will implement free school-based COVID-19 testing provided by the Georgia Department of Public Health. DPH will provide personnel, equipment and supplies to perform tests at our schools one or two days a week while we will provide the testing location, testing schedule, and opt-in and consent paperwork. This program will be totally voluntary and offered to all students and staff. DPH will test those individuals who voluntarily opt-in to the program on a regular basis. We appreciate your support and patience as we try to address the challenges related to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our school system as well as our community. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. Respectfully, Jennifer Albritton Superintendent

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians, We are very concerned about the percentage of positive tests in the last 14 days for our county. According to data provided by the Georgia Department of Public Health, our community has a high level of community spread. I plan to report a summary of the cases and quarantines in our schools for this week later this afternoon. While the number of positive cases that have been reported may not represent a large percentage of our total staff and student counts, the number of positive cases is troubling. To ease the concern of parents, students, and staff, we are going to make the following changes to our health and safety strategies. 1. Beginning Monday, face masks will be required on our school buses. This is a strategy used in many districts across the state. 2. Beginning Monday, the modified quarantine method for students exposed in the school setting will be changed. We will notify parents that their child may have been exposed, encourage them to monitor their child’s symptoms, allow them to remain in school during their quarantine period if they remain asymptomatic, and require that they wear a mask during the quarantine period. Any close contact that is opposed to wearing a mask at school during their quarantine period will be allowed to quarantine at home. We appreciate your support and patience as we try to address the recent challenges related to COVID-19. We will continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in our school system as well as in our community. If you have any questions or concerns related to our handling of COVID-19 in our schools, please contact me. Respectfully, Jennifer Albritton Superintendent
